Understanding the user

User research, Personas, Problem Statements, User Journey Maps

User Research: Summary

My user research was multi-fold.  I assumed the approach of empathizing with the user, understanding the progression of their illnesses, treatments, pain, symptoms, and mental health.  With this, I included the issues surrounding travel, cost, potency, dosage form, and other logistics that make up ensuring patients in need are prioritized.

User Persona: Jen

Through Jen, I was able to understand the increasingly common aspect of the medical marijuana world. There are plenty of frustrations with few answers.

User Persona: Jen

By understanding Jen's frustrations and her need for pain relief, I was able to empathize with her and recognize how alone she feels.

Empathy Map

Starting the Design

Paper wireframes, lo-fi prototypes, digital wireframes

Paper Wireframes

Digital Wireframes

I prioritized Jen throughout my design process, aiming to balance lightheartedness with high-quality information, as well as ensure ease of use and accessibility in the user flow

The goals I had for the study were met and went beyond my initial thoughts, opening dynamics previously not considered.  There was a definite interest in the product, especially if refined to meet a wider set of users as well a want for more information that is tailored to the needs of the patient.

Lo-Fi Prototype

Digital Wireframes

Refining the Design

Mockups, hi-fi prototype, Accessibility

Following the usability study, I completed the designs with a strong focus on the user. My goal was to create a design that is both pleasing and fun, while preserving its integrity and flow.

Accessibility is always crucial, but it is essential for this app given the unique needs of its users.

Takeaways

Developing the 'Terply' app has been an enjoyable and enlightening experience. I find joy in designing an app that has the potential to make life easier for those facing the toughest challenges.
